Visit Hamilton Road Animal Hospital If Your Pet Shows Any of the Signs of Urinary Obstruction

Urinary Obstructions in Dogs Can Become Dangerous If Left Untreated, Visit the Top Columbus Veterinarian

Many people report varying degrees of urinary problems in their pet. If you notice your dog struggling to urinate while on walks, or asking to go out way more than usual, he or she could be suffering from a urinary obstruction. Often the problem is temporary and can be remedied by having them drink more water or by increased exercise. However, a urinary obstruction can occur at any time and can be serious if left alone. If your pet shows any signs of difficulty while urinating, contact us at Hamilton Road Animal Hospital for care. We at Hamilton Road Animal Hospital are here for all your pet's medical needs.

Signs and Symptoms of Urinary Obstructions in Dogs

Signs of urinary obstruction include:

  • Whining or crying to go out
  • Trying to pee without result
  • Urinating blood
  • Vomiting or lack of appetite
  • Lethargy

Your pet may have some or all of these symptoms when suffering from a urinary obstruction, depending on the severity of the condition. If your pet shows any signs of discomfort, has stopped urinating normally, or is not eating well, contact us immediately. A urinary obstruction can become extremely dangerous for your pet and painful when left untreated.

Treatment for Urinary Obstructions in Dogs

Once we confirm that your pet indeed does have a urinary obstruction, we will develop an appropriate treatment plan. If diagnosed, a urinary catheter will be placed to help your pet urinate. He or she may need to be sedated for this. Once this is done, your pet's bladder can empty and we can diagnose the actual cause of the obstruction. Once the cause is diagnosed, we will come up with the best treatment plan for your pet. In some cases, surgery will be needed, but a special diet may fix the condition. We will discuss your options fully once we identify the cause.

Testimonials

Read What Our Clients Say

Wow! Thanks to all the staff at Anderson Vet Clinic. I feel like you all truly love what you do! My kitty, Lola and I always have such a pleasant experience when we come in. Fortunately, it’s usually just for a check-up, but I would not leave Lola in anyone else’s hands but yours. Thank you for your caring commitment!

I have benefited tremendously from the care my pet received from Dr. Anderson.

John Doe / San Diego, CA

Fabio wasn’t eating the food I was giving him and I didn’t feel he was getting the nutrition he needed. Thanks to Dr. Anderson, he evaluated Fabio and his current diet to make some recommendations and now Fabio has gone from barely eating to finishing his meals and he looks healthier than ever. You clearly are an expert in your field...thanks so much!
